June brings fresh insights and updated guidelines, and ICC is ready to lead you through the latest compliance news. This month, we're sharing best practices to keep your operations secure and on track. Let's embark on this journey toward safer and more efficient practices together.
π This Month's Spotlights:
Updating Hazard Communication: "The Long-Anticipated OSHA Hazard Communication Standard" outlines the U.S. Department of Labor's final rule to update OSHA's Hazard Communication Standard (HCS), effective July 19, 2024. Key changes include revisions to classification criteria, container regulations, and safety data sheets (SDSs), aiming to improve health and safety awareness and reduce workplace hazards. A transition timeline is provided for compliance, and alignment with international standards is highlighted.
Enhancing Hazmat Security: "49 CFR Security Plans" highlights the DOT's new tool for ensuring safe transportation of hazardous materials. It covers who needs a security plan, essential components, required security measures, and training. Compliance is crucial for large bulk quantities of hazmat, ensuring safety and regulatory adherence.
Training Essentials:"What is Adequate Training?" details the required training for shipping high-powered lithium batteries under 49 CFR, IATA, and IMDG regulations. It differentiates between high-powered and lower-powered batteries, noting that formal training is needed for the former, while "adequate instruction" suffices for the latter. Key steps from the IATA Lithium Battery Guidance Document (2024) are highlighted.
Ensuring Compliance: "IATA DG Checklists" emphasizes the importance of Dangerous Goods Acceptance Checklists for air transport. These checklists ensure that all dangerous goods shipments meet IATA regulations, covering packaging, labeling, and documentation. Operators must use these checklists to verify compliance and reduce risks during transport.
Wishing you a June filled with new insights and smooth compliance updates. Let's welcome summer with clarity, efficiency, and a dedication to safety. Here's to a successful and compliant season ahead!
